Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.

Through its technical publishing, conferences and consensus-based slandered activities, the IEEE produces 30 percent of the world’s published literature in electrical engineering, computers and control technology, holds annually more than 300 major conferences and has nearly 900 active standards with 700 under development.

IEEE offers numerous professional and educational opportunities like:

1. Membership

2. Publications

3. Digital Library

4. Conferences

5. Standards

6. Education Offerings

7. Grants

8. Awards

This support helps :

develop educational and public-information programs.

sustain historical research services.

subsidize workshops that facilitate the exchange of electronic information.

propel technological innovation and

increase public awareness about the vast impact of engineering on society.

Accomplishments in IEEE technical fields are recognized with annual awards for outstanding contributions to technology, society and the engineering profession.

The IEEE Medal of Honor, the IEEE's highest award, recognizes an individual for an exceptional contribution or extraordinary career in the IEEE fields of interest. Past recipients have included such visionaries as:

·Guglielmo Marconi (1920, for radio telegraphy).

·William Shockley (1980, for junction, analog and junction field-effect transistors)

·Andrew S. Grove (2000, for pioneering research in metal oxide semiconductor devices and technology)

IEEE is organized into:

324 local sections in 10 geographic regions.

1,784 chapters comprised of local members with similar technical interests.
